Teaching is more than just talking. It is communicating through various methods to share knowledge, inspire new ideas, be inquisitive, or to provide direction. Over the next few weeks, we will explore Professional Communication in the 21st Century.
Please share your thoughts regarding the following quote from the Simpson's "the problem with the world today is communication. Too much communication" (Groening, 2010).

I have only seen snippets from "The Simpsons" and would never have considered that they were professional communicators. We should not judge someone by appearances and what others say; we should give them a chance to communicate and show us. As far as too much communication, I imagine the author is referring to the constant attachment the young have with their texting and talking on cell phones.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
DeleteI love your insight to this quote! Also, you are so right, we cannot judge others by what we perceive, but rather what and how they say things. In addition, the constant life line so to speak of instant communication is exactly describing the excess in the quote. Have you ever tried talking to someone and they absently answer while texting?
Well,I am not sure the problem is too much communication but the quote I found
ReplyDeleteA degree of lying - you know, white lies - seems to be inherent in all languages and all forms of communication.

We have trust issues and it impacts communication.

Interesting perspective that the issue is not too much communication. I agree trust impacts how one communicates to others. How do you think trust impacts our professional communication?
DeleteMelody,
DeleteWhen there is trust there is more willingness to provide valid information. When there is lack of trust the comminication received in exchange maybe lacking vital information.
Very true!
DeleteOh my. Could you give me a hand as I step up on my soap box? Men Are From Mars. Women Are From Venus. Nurse team leaders communicating/not communicating to staff. This sounds like the beginning a good rant blog :)
ReplyDeleteCommunication regardless of professional or interpersonal can be challenging. There have been times when I have asked if I speaking in a language the person does not understand. Therein lies the heart of professional communication, particularly in the 21st Century. How do you think we can change communication between men and women or nurse team leaders and staff? Do you think it has anything to do with perception and vision?
